Lemonade Sea
Divadlo Jána Palárika (SK)
Performance 22 JUNE 2024 at 4:00 PM and 7:00 PM, Studio DJP
Revolutionary year 1968 in the midst of the Indian desert. Delegates from twenty-four Indian states and one hundred twenty-four countries toss a piece of clay into a porcelain bowl as a promise of peace and human unity. This place will become a modern city, the kind the world needs. Brave, absurd, spiritual, awkward, yet real.
Turbulent year 2024. Visiting a friend. Pizza, board games, an abundance of series on streaming platforms. Young people decided to celebrate their mid-year report card. Did someone cheat on the tests? And why is the delivery guy late? Tying freedom, fear of not being admitted to high school, uncertainty about the future, the arrival of mythical creatures.
“Lemonade Sea” is a graduate performance of members of the Children’s Theatre Academy of Divadlo Jána Palárika in Trnava. It’s the very first time these young people, alongside a professional creative team, have staged a full theatrical piece as a solid part of DJP’s repertoire. The project is inspired by the book Auroville about the real-life creation of a utopian city by Polish journalist Katarzyna Boni. It stems from a real dream of social change, which has persisted till our time. How do today’s young people approach concepts like utopia, paradise, imagination, or equality? And can they envision a better world than the one we live in?
